Power Boilers

Taking care of pressure equipment

Power boilers module takes care of pressure part equipment with in a power boiler, its risk in terms of consequence of failure and probability of failure. It covers other items forming part of the boiler like isolators, air heaters, soot blowers, burners, oil or preheating unit.

The module assists to find root causes for damage / failure of the critical items. And it is to put through risk ranking to highlight the priority of critical items. This prevents forced outages of the boiler, and thus contributes to availability of the boiler. As each boiler is unique depending on the fuel and circulation type, the approach to Asset integrity management is tailored to address, the unique problem of each type of boiler, Purpose as repair / replace condemn is to improve availability, reliability, maintainability and efficiency of the boiler.

Objectives of GALIOM's Power Boiler Module

  • Identify critical components prone to damages or failures. Maintain equipments in asset register of GALIOM
  • Risk based Inspection analysis, override PM strategy
  • Develop Preventative Maintenance Strategy. Timely inspection of components, predicting the remnant life, contributing to improved availability
  • Fitness for purpose analysis, to facilitate decision making based on analysis to repair / replace / condemn or prolong usage
  • Recommend Corrective Maintenance plan
  • Aim is to improve availability, reliability, maintainability and efficiency of the boiler
  • Regular updating of historical data

Potential Failure Mechanisms

GALIOM takes care of Potential Failure Mechanisms

Stress Rupture: short term overheat, high temperature creep (including long term overheating, dissimilar metal welds (load distribution and stress accumulation) Corrosion - Fire-Side: type I and II high temperature corrosion, ash deposit (hot corrosion) and ersosion coal ash, oil ash and biofuel ash
Fatigue: vibration, thermal and corrosion Ersosion: fly ash and deposition, falling slag, sootblower, fuel particles like coal or peat
Corrosion - Steam / Water-Side: caustic corrosion and oxidation, hydrogen damage, pitting, stress corrosion cracking Lack of Quality Control and monitoring: maintenance cleaning damage, chemical excursion damage, material defects, wedling defects or loss of metal

Creep assessment is based on Cavity Classification; GALIOM technical experts do analysis of data collected and come up with recommendation.
